Startling facts about hit-and-runs

The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety researches and analyzes data about hit-and-run crashes. Their statistics show that hit-and-run crashes and fatalities are increasing, with one happening in the United States every 43 seconds. In 2016, 2,049 people were killed in these types of accidents – the highest number ever recorded in the country.

And, Illinois is number four of the top 10 states with the most hit-and-run drivers.

When a driver flees the scene of an accident, they are also fleeing responsibility. This leaves the cost of medical and repair bills on the shoulders of the other driver, even if they had nothing to do with the cause of the accident. Hit-and-runs can leave victims with serious injuries, disability, or in the case of today’s accident, wrongful death. It is crucial to hold the responsible driver accountable for their actions.
